Inspired to see more of our beautiful country in 2022? Travel to the state and national parks have been surging, and it's no wonder why as we drool over the towering mountains and savage landscapes left untouched for all to experience a taste of the country's true raw beauty.
Planning a visit? Here are some travel tips from Cynthia, "Adventure traveling family one national park at a time" and author of the travel account @thesixcs.
TELL OUR READERS A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PASSIONS?
"My name is Cynthia, and I’m a mother of four kids. My husband and I love to go on new adventures with our kids especially exploring new National Parks. One of my passions is photography, and I feel in love with this art since high school — the ability to capture a memory to share with loved ones and the world." – Cyntha, @thesixcs
WHAT INSPIRED OU TO TREK YOSEMITE THIS YEAR WITH YOUR FAMILY?
"Last year during the pandemic, we decided to visit Yosemite in February and fell in love with this beautiful valley. We missed the fire fall by El Capitan during that visit, so this year, we were eager to visit Yosemite and capture this phenomenon experience."
WAS PLANNING THE TRIP EASY? WHAT DID YOU DO TO MAKE THIS INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE HAPPEN?
"On our first trip to Yosemite, we stayed in Groveland at an Airbnb, but we didn't get to explore the park as much because we still had to drive back an hour each way. We stayed in the park at the Yosemite Valley Lodge on this trip, which I booked months in advance to guarantee a spot in February.
WHAT WAS THE MOST SURPRISING EXPERIENCE YOU HAD ON THE JOURNEY?
We hiked a four miles round trip to get a spot to view the Firefall and made it ten minutes before the sunset. When the setting sun makes Horsetail Fall near El Capitan appear to be on fire or even look like a river of gold falling down the valley's cliffs 1,570 feet below."
HAVE OU EXPERIENCED OTHER AREAS IN THE NATIONAL PARKS? WHICH WAS YOUR FAVORITE?
We have explored Lassen, Joshua Tree, Muir Woods, Yosemite, Petrified Forest in AZ, and our recent Pinnacles National Park. Our favorite National Parks in California that we frequently visit are Yosemite and Joshua Tree."
WHAT ARE SOME ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR READERS PLANNING TO VISIT THE STATE PARKS?
Plan your visit based on the season and check the weather before going, especially in the summer because it can get very hot. Many State and National Parks offer campsites anywhere in the park, but book in advance."
MUST-SEE SIGHTS WORTH THE TREK?
"A must-see sight worth the trek is Monument Valley, located on the border of Arizona and Utah. The valley is host to towering sandstone rock formations that have been sculpted over time. This worthy destination is a Navajo Tribal Park which requires a permit to enter and explore the backcountry."
YOU WALKED OVER 10 MILES IN THE OTBT ALSTEAD SNEAKERS! HOW DO YOU FEEL OTBT FITS INTO YOUR IFE OF ADVENTURE OFF THE BEATEN TRACK?
"OTBT sneakers are my new traveling accessory. OTBT Alstead sneakers have been what my feet have been waiting for comfort, support, and stability. I didn't have to break into these shoes for our trip to Yosemite, and my feet were ready for the next hike." – Cynthia, @thesixcs
Thanks so much for taking us on your journey Cynthia, and inspiring us to plan ahead to witness the beautiful sights the National Parks have to offer. Hope we'll be seeing you again (in OTBT shoes of course ;)
